After Diana left from her visit here, another friend from Salt Lake, Cindy, popped in for a short visit. She had asked me what she could bring and I mentioned how hard it seems to be to find good bread here and bless her heart she showed up with 2 loaves of Great Harvest sunflower wheat, my all time favorite! (I bet the TSA inspectors at the airport puzzled over that one. Almost as much as back when I would travel with a dozen power bagels in my luggage!) We spent a day fiddling with the new toilet, which she christened Rosie. (I guess for the sweet smell…) and then we took off for a quick overnight cruise up to Newport. We had perfect sailing conditions both ways. The wind had picked up and got a little wild as we neared the mouth of Dana harbor so we jibed around and made another pass out to the last racing buoy and back just for fun!

My friend Harrison from SLC had recently bought a share in a sailboat down in San Diego and he called to say he was down there and invited us to visit. (only an hour away by car.) I had met Harrison a few years ago at Jordonelle lake. I had been sailing all day and was just pulling out, he was just putting in, and we helped each other. His sweet wife Sandy would always go with him and she hates to sail but didn’t want him to go by himself. She asked me if I would stay and go sailing with him and I was mumbling about how I was tired and hungry and she quickly said “We’ll feed you! We have fried Chicken and beer!” . OK I was hooked. We had a great time and started a lasting friendship. From then on, we almost always tried to connect up at the lake sailing each weekend and have had good times. I was so sad when this last summer Sandy lost her 10 year battle with cancer and passed on. In August, we all had a wonderful dinner together at Saki’s, her favorite sushi restaurant in SLC, just before she slid on down for the last time. Sandy, thanks so much for feeding me; and so much more than chicken and beer! You are such a sweet lady and we all miss you.
